About Us

The Liberty Swing Band is an 18 piece dance band based on the classic format of the Count Basie and Glenn Miller big bands.

The Band was formed in 2005 from professional and semi-professional musicians from the Greater Wellington Area, all sharing a love of performing big band music.

Liberty has performed concerts, fund-raising events, balls, private functions, corporate functions and dance competitions at venues including the Wellington Jazz Club, the Rotorua Jazz Club. the Christchurch Big Band Festival, the Johnsonville RSA, Wellington InterContinental Hotel, Mana Cruising Club, the Lodge on the Inlet at Pautahanui, The Victoria Hotel in Petone, ANZAC Commemoration Concert in Porirua.

We have a regular concert / dance venue at the Porirua Club, where the band will play on the first Sunday of every month from 6.00pm to 8.00pm.

The bands specialty are the punchy standard jazz and dance arrangements by such greats as Glenn Miller, Johnny Mercer and Henry Mancini, Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Billy Strayhorn, George Gershwin and Richard Rodgers.

The Liberty Swing Band has become the band of choice for the "Full Swing" Dance Club, playing for their annual balls and their members regularly attended the monthly Porirua Club dances.

You will experience the excitement that only a tight live Big Band can provide with outstanding instrumental soloists and vocal performances.
